The Isle of Wight is the Lonely Planet's number one place in the world to cycle. The ubiquitous travel guide has produced a top ten of places that should be on every cyclists wishlist. The Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service Cycling Club wholeheartedly agree and invite you to join us to ride their '100 Here' sportive with a choice of two routes, the 109.5km / 68 mile (100 Here) or the CHALLENGING 171km / 106 mile (Hilly Hundred Here) which has over 3000m / 10,000 ft of climbing on Sunday 28 June.
It will run in conjunction with the '100 There' element of the event which will see a team of local firefighters cycle from the Isle of Wight to Monaco and back in September 2015. This is a sportive designed by cyclists for cyclists and will take you up and down some hidden gems the Island has to offer. The event will start and finish at Ryde Fire Station located close to ferry links for both the foot passengers and vehicles.
Both routes circumnavigate the island in a clockwise direction with the 'Hilly Hundred Here' also cutting across the Island to discover the 'hidden gems' and provide metre after metre of ascent. The climbs may not be long but be prepared, "they are steep!"
Therefore we lay down the challenge to you!!
Do you want to be crowned the inaugural King or Queen Of the Mountains?
As part of the 'Hilly Hundred Here' there will be a number of timed climbs. To enter the KOM and QOM competition you will need to join Strava, and once joined become part of the group '100 Here 100 There.' With stunning scenery and breathtaking views on both routes, this is a sportive not to be missed!
The event is supporting the following charities:
IW ASBAH (IW Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus)
Parkinsons IW Branch
Alzheimer cafe IOW
IW branch of CRUSE Bereavement Care
Families of Ocean Ward
