The Wightlink Wight Challenge organisers would like to send a huge thank you to all teams, sponsors, marshals and supporters who enabled last year’s event. Teams raised a tremendous amount for the charities Wessex Heartbeat, Sail 4 Cancer and The Rainbow Centre and the final figure will be announced soon.
The first Wight Challenge began in 2004 and since then, 15 events have raised over £225,000. Plans are in place to make the next challenge the biggest and best yet because 2016 will be the last Wight Challenge. If you have always said “One day I’ll do the Wight Challenge”, you have only one chance left! If you would like to take part, please sign up early as there is limited availability for the last event.
So engrave 17th September in your diary, sign up in the New Year and start spreading the word. The format will be the same with teams of three cycling 19 miles, canoeing two miles and running 8 miles; entry is £50 per person and minimum sponsorship of £100 per person is requested.
Organsier, Claire Critchison says; “2016 will be a celebration event to show how much the event has achieved in the last 11 years and we hope that the overall fundraising figure will reach the quarter million mark. We are so grateful once again to our sponsors Wightlink Ferries, SERFCA who are allowing us to use the unique venue of Jersey Camp in Porchfield, Isle of Wight County Press for the publicity, Ryde Sea Cadets who will be helping on the water, Calbourne Classics for feeding us all and Wight Cycle Hire for helping with the bikes.”
