WIGHT OFF ROAD - Mountain Bike Hire, Repairs and Recovery - www.wightoffroad.co.uk VECTIS OFF ROAD CYCLING CLUB Many thanks to Bill Pewsey and Steve Chapman (also representing Off shore Sports) who help us organise some of our off road events. Both Bill and Steve help us with the route planning for the 7 Hills, as well as helping us to come up with ideas on improving the event and helping set up. This event would not exist without their help.
Thanks also goes to Bill Pewsey for all the efforts made in organising the "Come Try It" mountain bike event which was launched in 2004. Bill worked on building an off road race course of national standard, advertising, and the general administration of the event.
BRITISH CYCLING FEDERATION Steve Dines from the British Cycling Federation has worked with us and our Cycling Promotions Officer (Sue Marshall) in organising our new Children's Cycling Club. Steve also spent a lot of time working on the Go Ride event sponsored by Persil.

ISLAND 2000 AND GIFT TO NATURE Gift To Nature is a visitor payback scheme managed by Island 2000 Trust, which aims to show how tourism and conservation can help each other. Tourism is vitally important to the economy of the Isle of Wight; however, very little money earned from Tourism is spent on looking after the Island’s wonderful countryside itself. Gift to Nature aims to change this by asking local tourism businesses to invite tourists to make a voluntary donation towards local conservation projects. There are various ways local tourism businesses can raise money for Gift to Nature, ranging from simple collection boxes or envelopes placed in hotels to voluntary optional supplements being added to accommodation bills. Every penny raised is spent on Island conversation projects. So far we have improved habitats for Ventnor’s rare wall lizards, built a squirrel hide & trail in Parkhurst Forest and recently developed a wetland walk in the Sandown area, improving habitats for Kingfishers and Water Voles. Our project for 2004 is to develop an old unused meadow in the Totland area whilst increasing awareness of the butterflies and the flowers that grow there.
We hope you have a brilliant time on the Isle of Wight and that you would like to “do your bit” to keep this Island special. To find out more, visit www.giftonature.co.uk or contact Catherine or Becky at Island 2000 Trust on 01983 822118.
